Phillip Island Nature Park has advertised the position of curator for the Churchill Island Museum. Please encourage anyone you know suitably experienced to apply.

We are excited to offer:

Part time position (15.2 hours per fortnight)
Permanent role - Monday to Friday roster
Hybrid work conditions and flexibility of days worked
Scale 5 - $31.92 per hour (probationary rate), then $35.77 per hour
Stunning coastal work location on Phillip Island
The Role

The role is responsible for managing the museum collection at Churchill Island including maintaining museum register and catalogue for museum objects, oversee and support internship projects, support heritage volunteers, implement cleaning schedule, annual stocktake processes, and management of donations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Manage Museum Collection

Maintain museum register of collection items
Maintain catalogue onto Victorian Collections Database
Maintain National Trust items including negotiation of loan agreement
Manage donations in accordance to collections policy
Undertake annual stocktake procedures
Cleaning of heritage items
Assist with planning and coordination of working bees in partnership with Friends of Churchill Island Society
Volunteer Program Support

Support internship students in the completion of heritage projects
Supervise heritage volunteers in heritage related activities
Visitor Experience

Support visitor experience volunteer activities in liaison with Volunteer Program Coordinator
Provide input into heritage content for interpretation and education programs.

Key Selection Criteria

Proven experience maintaining appropriate collection records with demonstrated alibility in cataloguing collection items and understanding of collection management issues
Ability to work independently and use initiative, along with well-developed communication and negotiation skills
Exceptional skills working with & supervising volunteers and/or students
Ability to plan and implement appropriate cleaning and maintenance of collection items
To commence your journey with us, the following is required:

Relevant qualification in Museum Collection Management and/or equivalent relevant work experience
Working with Children Check
Drivers’ License
Evidence of work right status in Australia (copy of certified passport or birth certificate)
